Devils must find a way to be better on home ice

Loss to Avalanche drops record to 5-6-2 at Pru Center NEWARK -- The Devils  must find a way to stop giving away points on home ice. They have done just fine on the road this season, compiling a 7-4-0 record that includes wins in Chicago, Montreal, Ottawa and Madison Square Garden. But they are 5-6-2 at Prudential Center after Tuesday night's 2-1 loss to the Colorado Avalanche. So what's the problem? "I don't have an answer for you on that one," goalie Cory Schneider said. "We try to prepare the same. We try to keep everything as simple as possible. Some nights we're getting that late goal on the road for some reason or we're getting the extra one to go ahead or get leads. "At home we seem to sometimes be chasing and relying on a late opportunity to try and tie it up. I think we just have to set the tone a little better at home and try to put teams away earlier." RELATED: Are the Devils overconfident against some teams? The approach is the same, coach John Hynes insisted. The Devils don't have a different style when they play at the Rock. "There's really not a focus on that. We want to try to win every game we play," Hynes said. "We don't put any emphasis one way or the other on home vs. on the road. We've obviously found a way to win a little bit more on the road than we have at home, so it's something we'll discuss and talk about.
