Rutgers' coaching search is moving along. The second full day of Rutgers ' football coaching search in the books and there continues to be little information trickling out of Piscataway. While news is buzzing about openings around the country, Rutgers has kept things under wraps so far in the two days sinceKyle Flood was fired . That could be because Rutgers is earlier in the process than other schools that got a head start by firing their coaches in the middle of the season. But considering that the universityhired new athletic director Pat Hobbs before former athletic directorJulie Hermann had been fired , it doesn't seem likely that Rutgers will drag its feet on the coaching search. And the fact that Hobbs' hiring was kept a secret until after Hermann was fired on Sunday indicates that Rutgers' decision makers are capable of keeping a tight lid on information. The fact that Rutgers has enlisted the services of a search firm is revealing on a few fronts. First, it's a sign that Rutgers isn't putting all of its eggs in the Greg Schiano basket. Board of governors chairman Greg Brown surely has Schiano's phone number, so there would be no need for a search firm if the former coach was the favorite to return. Sources continue to tell NJ Advance Media that nothing is happening on the Schiano front. The hiring of the search firm could also slow the process, as new candidates will likely be introduced that extend beyond the few obvious names thatappeared on everyone's preliminary lists .
